The partner in charge of our building consultancy department was originally employed in the New Towns Service and later in local government working directly with various local authorities and residents in urban regeneration schemes.
As a Chartered Building Surveyor and Corporate Building Engineer he subsequently spent 10 years in private professional practice working largely in housing rehabilitation, conversion and estate regeneration with housing associations and local authorities in the North West and Yorkshire. This totals over 26 years direct experience of administering contracts based upon JCT standards forms including; initial surveys, feasibility reports and budget costings, 'one-stop' design and procurement, contract financial administration and on-site supervision.
Subsequently, as a principle in private practice based in Sheffield he regularly dealt with major repairs, short life refurbishment, disabled adaptations. He has extensive experience as an expert witness in building contract disputes, particularly in relation to defective work, boundary disputes and landlord and tenant matters. In more recent years has regularly acted as a party wall surveyor under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996.
In addition to the professional designations described above, Tony Kay is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Arbitration from The College of Estate Management. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Experts and a member of the "Pyramus & Thisbe Club".
Tony Kay has also been actively involved in professional institution matters as a former chairman of assessors' panels in the Building Surveyors "Assessment of Professional Competence" and a former member of the RICS Professional Conduct Panel.
