Christopher Tattersall's experience has been gained through more than 40 years working within the firm and dealing with the entire range of the firm's fields of activity. His specialities within the practice have, however, focused down onto rent reviews and rating. In respect of the latter he has a very wide knowledge of rating practice having had responsibility for all classes of property for which the firm has been instructed. He has taken rating cases through Valuation Tribunals and the Lands Tribunal.

The majority of his work has fallen into the retail and licensed categories. He has particular and specialised expertise in the licensed property field. As a consequence he is a current member of the RICS Trade Related Valuation Group. In the rating field he was instrumental in reaching an agreement on the basis for the 1990 revaluation, under the auspices of the then Brewers' Society, having led the ratepayers' cases at Valuation Tribunal. For the 1995, 2000, 2005 and forthcoming 2010 revaluations, again acting on the instructions of what is now the British Beer and Pub Association, he conducted the central negotiations with the Valuation Office Chief Executive's office, finally achieving an agreed basis in each case. He is an appointed adviser to the British Beer and Pub Association.

He also acted in the central negotiations with the Valuation Office Chief Executive in the agreement of bases for horse racecourse rating for the 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005 revaluations, acting for the Racecourse Association, in this specialised niche area of rating valuation.

His expertise is also in demand as a speaker. He has lectured on rating and related topics both to students and to seminars for continuing professional development. He has given seminars on licensed property rating and became an established speaker at the former Cambridge conferences on licensed property valuation. He has also spoken at training seminars run for the Chairmen and Members of Valuation Tribunals.
